GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the general direction of the Engineering Supervisor of Manufacturing Control Engineering, the Computer Systems Engineer defines the system based on the latest computer technology available. Responsibilities include defining the system requirements, reviewing the requirements with the users, implementing the required system software additions and modifications, and documenting the system.
NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION:
Within Manufacturing Control Engineering, the Computer Systems Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Supervisor. The Computer Systems Engineer normally operates independently, but may occasionally supervise the efforts of supporting engineering designers or technicians in data collection required to resolve software or interfacing hardware problems.
This position is concerned with the development of computer systems for a broad variety of applications. A given application activity includes definition of system requirements, researching the latest computer technology available, recommending the system hardware and software, modifying the computer operating system to obtain the performance objectives required, and testing and debugging the system and the system hardware.
A key function of the Computer Systems Engineer is to provide estimates of the software and computer hardware required for a given system.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science, plus two (2) years in Computer Applications. An acceptable equivalency would include an A.A.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering with Fortran / Pascal and Assembly Language credits plus (5) years experience with computer systems.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develop solutions to specific problems throughout the corporation utilizing existing or new computer systems.
Modify the system as required.
Document the system software modifications for future reference.
Provide cost estimates of system development.
